Amazon is seeking a regional VAT Senior Manager ideally based in London or Luxembourg to work on VAT planning, compliance and documentation for both new initiatives as well as on-going business activities covering Southern Europe predominately France, Italy and Spain (with future scope including Middle East and Africa). This position will lead the day-to-day VAT effort and will work closely with local business partners and members of the tax department to structure and understand transactions and restructurings. In addition, the position is to ensure VAT technical advice to support our Southern Europe VAT reporting, compliance, and on-going tax controversy requirements.
In order to be successful, the candidate must possess the ability to think strategically while also engaging in normal day-to-day tactical details. The candidate must:
· Demonstrate a proven ability to identify and manage VAT and execution risks
· Should have in-depth VAT technical knowledge with experience evaluating and advising on business initiatives, contemplated transactions, and business proposals; and
· Must be able to support on extremely complex audit and controversy projects in a hands-on and dynamic way.
Candidate is also responsible for ensuring a close working relationship with tax colleagues principally across the European region and global team as well as external stakeholder teams (e.g., Accounting, Legal, Systems) to communicate current and future business plans, obtain cross-functional tax subject matter input, and ensure coordination and execution of cross-functional tax solutions in a sustainable manner. Candidate must be able to communicate, written and verbally, complex VAT concepts in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals.
This position is not directly involved in day to day compliance but is responsible for delivering the planning, real time coordination, and communication of various tax-related projects as well as collaborating with business partner contacts. This includes ensuring the appropriate level of documentation is created and maintained to support analyses performed, decisions made and conclusions reached for purposes of reporting and compliance. Candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising and reviewing the work of more junior VAT staff.
