The cloud computing platform Amazon Web Services (AWS) has provided a highly robust and scalable web services platform for years. Using this platform, developers and their organizations are able to innovate faster and operate their infrastructures in a cost-effective manner. The range of services offered with AWS is continuously expanding, and covers on-demand storage, compute and network capacity, as well as a growing list of application services.

The team in the Netherlands is working on Amazon WorkMail. Amazon WorkMail is a secure, managed business email and calendaring service. It is built on Amazon Web Services technologies to be operated at Internet scale and to be always on. It offers support for common desktop or mobile email and calendar applications and comes with its own Web client.

As a Software Development Engineer, you will be joining the team that builds the back-end systems and AWS Console, both of which are used by customers, system administrators, resellers, etc. to manage their WorkMail infrastructure. WorkMail is a product that fits in the complex and diverse ecosystem of cloud-based enterprise e-mail platforms. Our systems are scalable, fast, and offer elegant solutions to this market's complex problems.

On daily basis you will be coding in Java and Javascript, and you will use many of Amazon Web Services' products.

Your responsibilities:
  • You will work on the server side of WorkMail, as well as its administrative UI.
  • You will design and develop solutions that will help our customers and shape the product and the industry.
  • You will be working together with other developers, system engineers and testers. Together with them, you will build high performance, reliable systems that will massively scale.
  • You will help establish performance and technical standards for the systems we build.

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Experience in developing complex applications in Java.
  • Excellent problem solving ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
  • Solid understanding of best coding practices including design, unit testing, and peer code-reviews.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Linux.
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python and Shell scripting.
  • Experience in building and operating mission critical, highly available (24x7) systems.
